Mahesh Babu’s “Sarkaru Vaari Paata” is another Telugu biggie that has generated huge hype post-pandemic. Regardless of the director, Mahesh Babu’s films generate a lot of interest. ‘Geetha Govindam’ director Parasuram has successfully introduced Mahesh Babu in a new avatar. It was evident in the trailer. The trailer was a resounding success.

Let’s see if the movie lives up to expectations.

Mahi (Mahesh Babu), a private money lender in the United States, gives studious Kalaavathi (Keerthy Suresh) $10,000 for her tuition, only to realize she tricked him. To recover his father’s money, he rushes to India. His father turns out to be a businessman named Rajendra Nath (Samuthirakani) in Vizag area, Mahi’s home town. Rajendra Nath also happens to be a person who owes Rs 10,000 crores to banks.

The rest of the movie is about Mahi fighting for a greater social cause?

Artist services:
Mahesh Babu carries the film on his shoulders and tries to lift it when the graph goes down. With his histrionics and dialogues, Mahesh Babu provided the required mojo. It also looks elegant. Mahesh Babu’s star power and comedic timing is the main strength of this movie.

Keerthy Suresh gives his best in the first half. The scenes between Mahesh Babu and Keerthy are hilarious at first. But she barely shows up in the second half, and when she does for a moment, she gets a cringe streak.

Samuthirakani, who wowed with his act of villainy in “Krack” and “AVPL,” doesn’t create much of an impact due to a weak persona.

Vennela Kishore as Mahesh Babu’s friend is fine. Subbaraju gets a stereotypical character. Nadiya’s role is hardly worth mentioning.

Technical Excellence:
Thaman and R Madhie are the main pillars among the technicians. “Kalavaathi” and “Ma Ma Mahesha” stand out in Thaman’s compositions. Madhie’s camerawork provided a luminous texture.

Strong points:

The histrionics of Mahesh Babu
Entertainment in the first portions
Thaman’s music

Lack of engaging narrative
Regular scenes in crucial situations
Hot topic treated without conviction

It had been a long time since Mahesh Babu had played a role with a comedic twist. “Sarkaru Vaari Paata”, director Parasuram’s first film with the superstar, places him in this zone. Maybe Mahesh Babu understood very well that Parasuram had written a formulaic script that he had to take care of. He went the extra mile with his comedic timing and histrionics to hold the film together.

After starting the film with the hero’s childhood episodes and establishing the hero’s reason for becoming a moneylender, the story shifts to a fun and entertaining romance track.

For almost an hour, the sequences of Mahesh Babu and Keerthy Suresh unfold, including the song ‘Kalavaathi’. Remember that there are only two songs in the first half and the rest of the drama relies entirely on Keerthy Suresh and Mahesh Babu’s love song.

“Sarkaru Vaari Paata” has a topical problem – payment defaults and bank scams. Bank officials seize assets from poor and middle class customers if they miss their EMIs. But they dare not touch businessmen and willful defaulters. The topic is relevant. And Parasuram tried to give a commercial touch to this number. The writer-director chose a proven formula for commercial films.

Parasuram is good at narrating movies with a dose of entertainment. His mark is visible in the opening portions, but proved disappointing in the second half.

The beginning of the film, the interval and the climax are cleverly connected. But he faltered in the crucial part of the final sequences. The director also took too many cinematic liberties.

The director managed to keep the film largely entertaining, even during the slightly slow second half there are moments that keep the film tight.

For a story dealing with bank loans and financial scams, it needed a much more compelling narrative. The forced comedy track involving Mahesh Babu, Subbaraju and Keerthy Suresh in the second half is another black spot of the film.

The film lacks the drama and emotional punch required in the penultimate sequences. Tanikella Bharani’s loan issue and Nadiya’s story leave us feeling unemotional.

Overall, “Sarkaru Vaari Paata” is a regular commercial film made on a hot topic. The movie relies entirely on the power and charisma of Mahesh Babu and the superstar tries his best to put on the show. He’s a typical mass artist with a mixed bag.

At the end of the line : Paata by Mahesh Babu
