Prithviraj Trailer: Akshay Kumar-Manushi Chhillar’s Film Celebrates ‘True Love, Valor and Dharm’

Akshay Kumar-featured Prithviraj stands for greatness, patriotism and bravery. Yash Raj Film’s latest magnum installment has been in the news for a long time, and from the trailer that dropped on Monday, we know how his team pulled out all the stops to make it an impressive historical drama.

Prithviraj’s trailer is loaded with heavy dialogue and dollops of histrionics. From the larger-than-life war sequences to the exuberant art direction, it seems YRF has spared no effort to deliver audiences a historical drama that aims to do the plot justice.

Akshay Kumar in the titular role of Prithviraj Chauhan seems compelling, given that we’ve also seen him deliver intense dialogue in his films. Supporting actors including Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood give a deja vu of their previous work. Manushi Chhillar gets a decent amount of screen time in the trailer and looks enchanting as Sanyogita, the wife of Prithviraj Chauhan. While Ashutosh Rana has a fleeting appearance, actor Manav Vij plays Muhammad of Ghori.

Based on the epic poem Prithviraj Raso by medieval poet Chand Bardai, the period drama sees Akshay play the Rajput Emperor with former Miss World Manushi Chhillar as Sanyogita. This is her Bollywood debut.

Earlier, Prithviraj’s teaser showed us the scale of the film’s ambition. As a king for whom thousands were willing to lay down their lives, the clip focused on his bravery on the battlefield and how he confronted the invader Muhammad of Ghori.

The film is written and directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi. In a previous interview, the director who brought us Chanakya, Mohalla Assi and Pinjar, talked about how he’s been living with the story for almost two decades. “Prithviraj is my dream project. It’s a storyline that I’ve nurtured for a long, long time because of the extensive research that went into it before I even tried to make a movie about this mighty and legendary king. To be precise, Prithviraj’s final research took about six months for me to be fully convinced that every fact was checked multiple times,” Dwivedi said.

Akshay, meanwhile, called Prithviraj a synergy “of history, of patriotism, of representing the values we should live by, and also telling a rare-to-find love story.” He said he was impressed with Prithviraj Chauhan’s story. “The more I read about him, the more impressed I was with how he lived and breathed every second of his glorious life for his country and his values,” the actor said.

Prithviraj also stars Sanjay Dutt, Sonu Sood, Manav Vij, Ashutosh Rana, Sakshi Tanwar and Lalit Tiwari. It is produced by Yash Raj Films and will be released on June 3.
