As we wait for the onslaught of new series orders in the coming days, here’s some late-breaking gossip about what’s hot on the broadcast networks in a shortened edition of Deadline’s Pilot Buzz.
At ABC, the The recruit spin-off planted with Niecy Nash and Alaska Daily News, starring Hilary Swank, remains a lock. the LA Law the sequel faded but did not die. Speaking of death, comedy pilot not dead yet, with Gina Rodriguez, continues to be hot. No new info on the comedy side, so it’s unclear if the presentation hugging machine and pilot Rust Belt News remain the favourites. Unplanned in Akron had recently been looking for a showrunner.
CBS 2022 Pilot Orders and Series
With NBC’s only drama pilot coming in the fall, quantum leapalready receiving a serial order, potentially for the post-Voice slot machine, NBC has only one comedy decision to make. Between its two pilots, Lopez vs. Lopeza collaboration between George Lopez and his daughter, appears a lock, while Hunger got cold. 2022 NBC Pilot and Series Orders
Two projects that had been put on a script-to-series track, John Eisendrath’s procedural drama Alert and Steve Yockey’s meteorological comedy Cindy Snow, continue to look great for a pickup. The only network pilot ordered during the 2022 window this year, a Untitled Michelle Nader comedy presentation, no longer for the fall as I hear a revamp/overhaul is likely. Other comedies considered off-cycle include Wheelan Motors and animal control.
Among other script-to-series dramas, Against all odds got warm behind Alert, with Icon also picks up steam with its timely Season 1 subjects Naomi and Wynonna Judd.
The CW’s three pilots this season continue to look good: Supernatural prequel The Winchesters, Walker origin story Walker: Independence and Gotham Knights. It is still possible for everyone to go into series.
